Christmas traditions
In our previous blog we took you into the magic of Christmas. This time we discover how you can experience the Christmas feeling in a unique way by giving traditional elements a personal twist. Let us wander together into the multifaceted experience of Christmas, where every tradition tells a story and the magic lies in our own hands.
Santa
An important person at Christmas time is of course Santa Claus, a figure from the Western Christmas tradition. Santa Claus is often associated with giving presents at Christmas time. According to legend, Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, where he makes toys and prepares gifts for children all over the world together with his elves and reindeer. The elves are often depicted as little industrious creatures who help make and wrap presents, the reindeer pull Santa's sleigh and travel around the world to deliver the presents.
In many cultures, it is tradition for children to write letters with their wish lists and leave out cookies and milk on Christmas Eve before Santa's visit. The famous film The Santa Claus is the perfect film to experience the story and world of Santa Claus. There are many Christmas films that give you a Christmas feeling, but The Santa Claus is a real classic for young and old, which you can really enjoy every year.
Rovaniemi
Rovaniemi is located close to the Arctic Circle and is the heart of Finnish Lapland, it is the home of Santa Claus. Santa Claus Village is the famous Christmas village where you can visit Santa Claus, where he and his elves make all the preparations for Christmas.
In reality, Santa Claus lives in a secret location close to Korvatunturi Mountain that only his elves know about. Legend has it that a lost explorer accidentally discovered Santa's house and decided to turn it into his public office, where he could receive all the children from all over the world. Santa's village is open all year round and you can visit it freely.
Santa Claus and the North Pole are linked to Christmas celebration and gift giving, and are an important part of Christmas traditions.
Christmas experience
I like to think back to my childhood at Christmas, when there was snow, enjoying the snow fun and when I got home, drinking a nice mug of hot chocolate and warming up. Watch a Christmas movie together with the family, go to the Christmas market and enjoy the festive spirit together. Read Christmas stories in bed in the evening and retell about the pleasant day. Making wish lists and drawings for Santa Claus, on Christmas Eve we always enjoyed the delicious Christmas menu and then unpacking presents.
At Christmas the whole family came to visit to wish them a Merry Christmas and a warm Christmas was made together, with good food and fun stories.
There are several ways to create a Christmas feeling:
- Go to the Christmas market and soak up the festive atmosphere.- Drink a hot mulled wine to get into the Christmas spirit.
- Make Christmas decorations together with others and decorate the house nicely.
- Set up and decorate the Christmas tree, with a cup of hot chocolate.
- Sit comfortably on the couch and watch a Christmas movie, accompanied by tasty snacks and drinks.
- Enjoy delicious food and unpack presents together during Christmas.
- Sharing the fun with children and family, and being there for each other.
- Enjoy being together and experience the warm Christmas feeling.
- Sharing love with loved ones and being surrounded by people you love.
Everyone experiences Christmas in their own way, but the magic of Christmas is a sense of wonder, joy and enchantment, a sense of connection and sharing special moments with loved ones.
